There are so many reasons why marriage is important. It is literally one of the pillars of Judaism, for without it, there is no continuity of the Jewish people.

Here are a number of reasons why we should marry. They are in no particular order, and there are many many more which are simply beyond the scope of this write-up.

1. We believe that every person if only “half a person” until they meet their spouse, their soul mate, at which time they become “whole.” The Talmud says that each person’s soul mate is determined before they are born!

2. Having children is a tremendous mitzva and obligation, and without it, the Jewish people would cease to exist.

3. Judaism, in its ideal form, is best practiced in a marriage and family unit.

4. When husband and wife work together as a team they accomplish far more in life than merely two people. As it says in of Ecclesiastes (4:9), "Two are better than one."

5. Marriage brings God and blessing into a home

6. All human beings need companionship. As it says in Genesis, “It is not good for man to be alone.”

There is far more to discuss, but suffice it to say that countless research has shown unanimously that there are many mental, physical and emotional benefits of marriage. Married couples are happier than single people.

In conclusion, keep in mind that the Hebrew word for marriage is “Kiddushin” which means “holiness.” That should be enough to entice you into finding a partner to build a home with. It is far more than a social relationship.
