Prohibited Laughter During Niddah
Question
I read that it is forbidden for there to be 'laughter and frivolity' between a husband and wife during the time she is niddah. What does this mean, is it forbidden to tell jokes?
Answer
Shalom Rav,
There is no prohibition against laughing together during niddah. 'Laughter and frivolity' is defined as a type of conversation that leads to closeness and a desire for intimacy. As our sages said in Pirkei Avot, 'Laughter and frivolity accustom a person to immorality'.
