Doing the Hefsek Taharah Earlier

Question

I am on vacation, and we want to go out on a trip from four o’clock until nighttime. I need to do a hefsek taharah, and I prefer to do it calmly at home rather than try to find public restrooms during the trip. Is there any problem with doing the hefsek at four o’clock in the afternoon?

Answer

Shalom u’vrachah

Doing the hefsek close to sunset is only the preferred practice lechatchilah.

When there is a need, it is permitted to do the hefsek earlier.

It is certainly preferable to do the hefsek at home in a definite and calm manner, rather than entering into uncertainty as to whether you will remember and whether you will manage to do it in time; and even if you do, it would not be done calmly.
