Using a Meaty Microwave

Question

Hi,Is there a problem with heating something meaty in a microwave if you want to continue using it for pareve (and not make it meaty)? And if there is a problem — if someone did use it for meat, would a pareve food placed in it afterward become meaty or affected in any way? Also: can one place a dairy food in the microwave (since it was previously used for meat)?

Answer

Shalom,

There is no problem using a meaty utensil for a pareve food.

If the utensil was clean, with no noticeable meat residue, the food that was heated remains pareve.

In any case, someone who ate a pareve food that was heated in a meaty microwave does not need to wait six hours before eating dairy.

However, a meaty microwave should not be used to heat dairy food.
