Kettle Used for Heating Chocolate
Question
Answer
Hello
The kettle becomes dairy by heating chocolate in it.
When intending to cook water in the dairy kettle to use it for rice that will be eaten with meat, the rules are as follows:
There is a difference between whether the kettle is "ben yomo" (used within the last 24 hours for cooking chocolate) or "ein ben yomo" (more than 24 hours have passed).
If it is "ben yomo", initially one should not cook water there if intending to eat it with the other type.
Water that has already been cooked there and is intended to be used in a meat dish, for Sephardim - it is permitted, and for Ashkenazim - it is forbidden.
However, if the pareve food is already mixed with the meat, it is permitted to eat it even for Ashkenazim.
If the kettle is "ein ben yomo", for Sephardim - it is permitted initially to cook water there with the intention of eating it with the other type. For Ashkenazim - if he has another pot, initially one should not cook water there with the intention of eating it with the other type, but if it is already cooked, it is permitted to mix it with the other type. If he does not have another pot, it is permitted even initially to cook in the pot of one type with the intention of eating it with the other type.
