Pareve Food Cooked in a Ben Yomo Meat Pot
Question
Hello and blessings. A pareve food that was cooked in a ben yomo meat utensil: according to Ashkenazic custom, is the prohibition only to mix it with a dairy food on the same plate, or is it also forbidden to eat it at the same meal together with dairy, or to eat them one after the other when they mix in the mouth? Thank you.
Answer
Hello and blessings
Copied from the rulings of our teacher Rabbi Amram Fried shlita:
Initially, one should not cook pareve food in a ben yomo pot of one type if he intends to eat it with the other type.
A non-sharp pareve food that was cooked in a ben yomo pot of one type, and one wishes to eat it with the other type: for Sephardim it is permitted, and for Ashkenazim it is forbidden. However, if the aforementioned pareve food has already become mixed with the other type, it is permitted to eat it even for Ashkenazim.
The prohibition is only to eat them together, but there is no issue with eating them at the same meal, and there is no issue if the remnants mix in the mouth.
