A Lid Placed on a Gas Stove Grate
Question
Our gas stove is used for cooking both meat and dairy foods (mainly meat). I cooked rice in a meat pot, and my daughter opened the lid and placed it on the gas stove grates. There was moisture on the lid from all the steam that rose while the rice was cooking. The grate had not been cleaned in any way, but I also did not see any actual dirt stuck to it. What is the status of the lid?
Answer
Shalom u’vrachah.
The lid remains kosher, as it was.
[The absorbed tastes in the grate are not ben yomo; moisture is not considered a liquid that transfers absorbed tastes; the grates kasher themselves through the heat of the fire. There are additional reasons as well].
