Cake with black dots

I prepared a cake, and when I took it out of the oven it was full of black dots on top, which I had not seen earlier in the batter. I checked all the ingredients again and they all look as usual, with no trace of black dots or any sign of infestation. I understand that it seems to be something that came from the oven. Is there a need to be concerned that these are insects, or something else that poses a kashrut problem, or may the cake be eaten?
