Make for Yourself a Rabbi

Can every person choose a rabbi for himself [in order to be lenient like him even in a doubt concerning a Torah prohibition]?
What are the conditions required for choosing a rabbi?
And after he has chosen a rabbi, is he obligated to follow him in all matters? [Presumably]
Must he clarify the rabbi’s opinion in all areas [as soon as he has chosen the rabbi],
or may he rely on anything he has heard from any rabbi at all—until he hears that his rabbi disagrees with the ruling?

Every person may choose a rabbi for himself, and rule in accordance with him in any case where he does not know that this rabbi erred, or that he is ruling against all the other rabbis. 

Even after he has chosen a rabbi for himself, he does not need to clarify that rabbi’s opinion on every topic and matter; rather, in a matter where he knows that rabbi’s rulings, he must follow his rulings.
