Family background and which Halachot to follow.
Question
Hi, please help me choose understand my minhag might be according to Halacha
I was born Chabad and raised this way for 14 years
Then I went off the path
I am now a Baal Teshuvah
I was a Baal Teshuvah in Australia, then moved to Israel
My family background is Ashkenaz
By Halacha, must I follow the minhag of Rema and he be my Rabbi?
Is there a minhag to follow what my dad raised me with as Chabad?
Does the minhag change when I move to Israel?
And according to Rav Ovadia Yosef what would I do?

Answer
Thank you for your question.
Whether to follow the Rema or the Mechaber, is less about being Chabad but rather depends on your family background. If you come from a Sephardic background, then you follow the halachot of the Mechaber. If you are of Ashkenazi background, then you follow the halachot of the Rema.
Wishing you much success.
