Exchanging a Shift Scheduled for the Holiday

At my workplace in software development, among other things, we are required to monitor and oversee the proper functioning of the products and clients.
There is an on-call rotation among the employees, with a different employee doing it each week.
For Fridays and Shabbat, there are two employees who do this on a fixed basis, and they are not part of the general rotation, so they only do weekends.
Those are the facts.
I have now been assigned the week that includes the holiday of Rosh Hashanah, and I would like to ask whether I am permitted to exchange the on-call duty with someone else, when it turns out that I would be causing him to desecrate the holiday?

According to the strict letter of the law, there is no prohibition in exchanging with another employee yourself. 

However, it is preferable to refrain from doing so, and to tell the manager that you cannot work, and the manager will change the shifts himself.
