The reuse of too large yahrzeit candles
Question
A well intentioned friend bought me two large candles for two upcoming yahrzeits in the coming week. I am unfortunately unable to make these purchases myself. Concerned that the smaller candles available might not burn for the complete 25 hours so she bought larger expensive ones with the suggestion that I use them later to carry a flame when necessary for a yomtov. I am uncertain whether it is permitted to continue to use these candles for such a purpose.
Answer
Shalom!
Thank you for your question.
It is permitted to use a leftover yartzeit candle for the purpose of keeping and using a flame on Yom Tov. A yartzeit candle has no holiness.
