Instructing a non-Jew - Using a Hot Plate
Question
Shalom Rabbi,
I have two questions,
1. Is it permitted on Yom Tov to ask a non-Jew to plug an electric hot plate into the electricity for the needs of Yom Tov? Is there a distinction between the first day of Yom Tov and the second day of Yom Tov in the Diaspora?
2. On Shabbat, is it permitted to ask a non-Jew to raise the temperature of an electric stove that was already turned on before Yom Tov?
Thank you very much

Answer
Shalom u'vrachah
1. It is permitted to tell a non-Jew to plug in the hot plate for the purpose of warming food on Yom Tov. There is no difference between the first day of Yom Tov and the second day.
2. On Yom Tov, it is permitted.
