Yom Kippur Fast — A Nursing Woman Prone to Urinary Tract Infections

Question

A nursing woman who needs to drink a lot, and if she reduces her fluid intake she gets a urinary tract infection — what should she do regarding the Yom Kippur fast?

Answer

Shalom u’vracha,

She should drink in measured amounts [40 cc of liquid] every 4 minutes.

She should reach a total of a liter and a half of fluids.

It is advisable to drink nourishing beverages, such as grape juice, natural orange juice, soup broth, and the like, which in addition to the fluids they contain will also strengthen her.
