The Fast of Tisha B’Av for Someone Who Has Difficulty Fasting
Question
Should a woman six weeks after giving birth, who is fully breastfeeding, and who is weak and has great difficulty with fasts, fast on Tisha B’Av or not? She has a history of fainting and very severe weakness during fasts. Is she required to fast or not? Thank you very much.
Answer
Shalom u’vrachah.
If she is already especially weak now, she should not fast.
However, if at present she does not feel weak, she should begin the fast, and as soon as she becomes weak, she should eat and drink.
