The Fast of Tisha B’Av — Urinary Tract Infection

Question

Hello
Does a woman who is taking antibiotics due to a urinary tract infection need to fast on Tisha B’Av?
Thank you

Answer

Hello and blessings

Regarding the infection itself: if she has become weak throughout her whole body, she should not fast. If there is only localized pain, she should fast.

Regarding the very act of taking antibiotics — there is no problem with fasting. However, sometimes a large amount of antibiotics can cause weakness. If she has become weak to the extent that her whole body is weakened, she should not fast.
