The Fast of Tisha B’Av — Diarrhea

Question

Fasting on Tisha B’Av with a sensitive bowel — diarrhea: what should one do?

Answer

Shalom and blessings

One who, due to diarrhea, is defined as “ill” — meaning that he is bedridden or feels ill throughout his whole body — is exempt from fasting.

One who does not fall into this category should begin fasting; if, due to the diarrhea, he becomes weak and reaches a state of illness, he should eat and drink.
