Fasting with Kidney Stones

Question

In the past, I have had several instances of kidney stones caused by insufficient drinking. Recently, I have been feeling as if I have a stone, and only increased fluid intake seems to help. I wanted to know if I can fast. Additionally, I am asking on behalf of my wife who gave birth by cesarean section four months ago and is currently breastfeeding, if she can fast.

Answer

Shalom!
If you have a kidney stone and there is pain, do not fast. A woman who gave birth four months ago should fast. If she feels particularly weak, or if there will be a lack of milk for the baby, she should break the fast.
