Showering During the Nine Days

Question

Is it permissible to shower during the Nine Days?

Answer

Azamra Lishmecha:

It is forbidden to wash the body, even with cold water, except for the face, hands, and feet, which may be washed with cold water [i.e., water from whose warmth one does not derive enjoyment] without soap (see the responsum, question 33, regarding what is defined as the face, hands, and feet). 33. Washing that is not for the sake of pleasure is permitted. Therefore, a person who suffers from perspiration and is very soiled by it may wash one limb at a time with cold water [from whose warmth one does not derive enjoyment; there is no need to dry between one limb and another, and the main point is that the washing should not be for pleasure].
