Invalid Aravot in the Lulav Bundle

Hello and blessings. When I replace the aravot in the lulav, am I required to remove the old aravot that became invalid, or may I leave them together with the new ones and it does not invalidate the mitzvah? Thank you very much.

The old aravot do not invalidate the bundle, and they do not constitute a barrier between his hands and the species of the lulav even if they are inside the lulav bundle, since they are among the species of the lulav.

But if he wrapped the hadas branches with the lulav, it is permitted, and it is not considered a barrier, because this is considered beautifying it [Levush]. And the Machatzit HaShekel wrote the reason that it is therefore permitted: because all three species are considered as one.
