Slats on the Sechach
Question
Is it permissible to build a pergola and place slats on both sides of the bamboo, in a “sandwich” form, so that the sechach (bamboo) will be held firmly in place?

It is permissible to do this with slats that are themselves valid for use as sechach.
Slats that are not valid for use as sechach may not be placed in such a way that the sechach remains in place in a normal wind only because of them. However, if the sechach would remain in place in a normal wind without them, it is permissible to place them on the sechach.
