Placing a Beam on the Schach
Question
Is it permissible to place a beam above the schach in a sukkah, and tie it to a beam beneath the schach, so that the schach between them will not blow away in the wind?
Answer
Shalom u’vrachah
It is permitted—if one uses a beam that is itself kosher for schach. The beam should likewise be tied with something that is kosher for schach, such as raffia strings and the like.
If the beam would withstand an ordinary wind even without being tied, it is permitted to tie it even with something that is not kosher for schach, in case there is an unusual wind.
