Megilla
Question
Is it permitted for a woman to write a Megilla?
Answer
Shalom!
Thank you for your question.
While the Pri Megadim, Mishbetzos Zahav, 691:2, allows women to write Megillas, common custom is to forbid the practice in accordance with Sha’arei Teshuva 691:3 and Rav Akiva Eiger 691:2.
The reason is because women are not actually obligated in "reading" the Megilah, but rather, they are only obligated to "hear" the Megilah. Only one with the higher level of requirement to "read" the Megilla should write it. (Tosfos, Arachin 3a)
