Listening to Music for Sports

Is it permissible to listen to music for sports? Or to motivate myself in household chores?

I assume the question pertains to the period of Sefirat HaOmer, and the answer is that if it is truly necessary, such as needing to create a rhythm for sports activities, it is permitted. However, not to make the work more pleasant.
If the question was general, regarding the prohibition of listening to music at this time, it is permitted when there is a need, for any purpose.
