A Ring During Netilat Yadayim

Question

Hello and blessings

1. Is a woman required to remove her ring for netilat yadayim?
2. If she is required to do so, may she move it down to the beginning of the finger, where it is very loose, and wash her hands that way?

Thank you very much

Answer

Hello and blessings

1. She must remove it.

2. Even if the ring is very loose, it must be removed.

3. Only someone who always leaves the ring on her hand and is not particular to remove it for any activity does not need to be particular to remove the ring.

Shulchan Aruch, Orach Chaim, siman 161, se’if 3
One must remove the ring from his hand at the time of netilat yadayim, even if it is loose (Beit Yosef). And even if he is not particular about it at the time of washing, since he is particular about it when doing work, so that it should not become dirty. Some have the custom to be lenient if it is loose, but one should be stringent, because we are not expert in determining what is considered loose.
