The Order of the Paragraphs of Keriat Shema

Question

Shalom to the rabbi

Where does the first paragraph of Keriat Shema begin and where does it end, and likewise regarding the second paragraph and the third paragraph—where does each begin and end? And if possible, please provide the correct order of the three paragraphs.

Answer

First paragraph: from “שמע ישראל” (“Hear, O Israel”) until “ביתך ובשעריך” (“your house and in your gates”).

Second paragraph: from “והיה אם שמוע” (“And it shall be, if you surely listen”) until “כימי השמים על הארץ” (“as the days of the heavens above the earth”).

Third paragraph: from “ויאמר” (“And He said”) until “אני ה' אלוקיכם” (“I am the Lord your God”).
