Prayer After the Proper Time for Prayer
Question
If the time for prayer has passed, what may one still say, and what may one not say?
Answer
Shalom u’vrachah.
After the time for prayer has passed, one may say everything: Pesukei DeZimrah, Keriat Shema with its blessings, and the Shemoneh Esrei — until midday.
After midday, one should say only Keriat Shema without its blessings, as one who is reading from the Torah.
If Shacharit was missed due to circumstances beyond one’s control or by mistake, one should pray an additional Shemoneh Esrei immediately after the Shemoneh Esrei of Minchah, as tashlumin for Shacharit.
