Eating a Grain Dish Close to Minchah

Question

Hello, Rabbi. It is known that one may not begin a meal with bread within half an hour before Minchah. What is the halachah regarding a mezonot meal, for example ptitim and chicken (a meat dish)?

Answer

Shalom u’vrachah

A grain dish — such as ptitim, pasta, and the like — if one eats it in a casual manner, is permitted even in an amount greater than a kebeitzah.

However, if one is eating his regular meal from them, it is forbidden before Minchah.

A cooked dish made from the Five Species is also permitted if one does not establish his meal upon it.
