Should one recite a blessing on a pickled cucumber eaten with kugel?

Shalom Rav,
Anything eaten as secondary to another food is blessed on the primary and not on the secondary. However, if it is also eaten for the taste of the secondary, one blesses on both.
According to people's custom, the cucumber is eaten not only to accompany the kugel and mitigate its taste but also for the enjoyment of its own taste.
Therefore, one should bless "Borei Pri Ha'adama" on it.
