Checking for Shatnez — a Cotton and Acrylic Jacket
Question
I bought a winter jacket, and the label says that the fabric is made of Pamuk (cotton in Turkish) and Akrilik (acrylic). Is it possible to rely on the label that it contains no shatnez, or must it be sent for testing in a laboratory?
Answer
Shalom u’vrachah
There is no obligation to check it.
However, it is proper for the store to conduct at least a sample inspection.
If it is not possible to check it at the moment, it is permitted to use it and check it afterward.
Source
If it is considered a non-prevalent minority, it does not require checking at all.
However, there are winter products in which there is a prevalent minority, and if so, they should be checked when possible.
