Kashrut of a trimmer
Question
I wanted to ask whether the trimmer on an electric shaver requires kosher certification or not.
And whether it is permitted to use it to straighten the peyot, and if so, in what ways.

Answer
Shalom u’vrachah.
Every haircutting machine of this type is built from two metal parts: a moving part [the part that moves from side to side] and a stationary part [the part that remains in place without moving].
If one shaves in a manner where the stationary part rests against the face, kosher certification is not required.
If one shaves in a manner where the moving part or the blade head is close against the face, kosher certification is required, to ensure that a slight thickness of hair remains above the skin.
