Demanding an Exorbitant Price

Question

My wife sent her wig for repair. When she brought it, she asked what the price would be, and she was told they would inform her after the repair is done. We checked elsewhere and were told that this would cost approximately 150 NIS. In fact, she sent the wig initially assuming that was more or less the price. After the repair, they are demanding we pay 650 NIS! We checked in two other places and were told that the price for such a repair should not exceed 200 NIS. The question is, do we have to pay the full 650 NIS?

Answer

The response of our teacher, Rabbi Amram Fried SHLIT”A is that one should only pay 150 - 200 NIS, which is the accepted price. It is important to emphasize, however, that in order to decide a legal dispute between two people, it is necessary to hear both sides. With a slight change in the claims, the decision might change. This answer is based on the story as presented here.
