The Law of Tithing Money for a Torah Scholar

Question

Is it necessary to give a tithe when one is in deficit, especially considering that I am a full-time Torah learner, thank God?

Answer

Dear …!
Even a Torah scholar is required to give tithes.
A person who does not have enough money for his sustenance is exempt from tithing.
[Having a negative amount in your bank account isn’t necessarily a result of a lack of money, sometimes it is a result of a lack of planning].
