Blessing Over Vegetable Soup

Question

What is the blessing over vegetable soup, and what is the law if the soup has been pureed?

Answer

Dear …!
For a soup with a large amount of vegetables in relation to water, the blessing is 'Borei P'ri Ha'adamah' (Creator of the fruit of the ground), both on the vegetables and on the liquid that has received a strong taste from the vegetables.
Therefore, even if one eats the liquid without the vegetables, the blessing is 'Borei P'ri Ha'adamah'.
If the amount of vegetables is not so great in relation to the liquid, the blessing on the liquid itself is 'Shehakol' (by Whose word all things came to be), and on the vegetables 'Borei P'ri Ha'adamah'. In such a case, if one eats the liquid with the vegetables, the blessing is only 'Ha'adamah'.
All this is when that the vegetables are not finely ground, so their blessing is 'Ha'adamah'; but if the vegetables are ground until they lose their form, and it is not recognizable what they are, the blessing on the soup is 'Shehakol Nih'yeh Bid'varo' (by Whose word all things came to be).
