Painting the Batim in with strap paint
Question
Is it permissible to paint the Batim of a tefillin in with the paint intended for their straps?
Answer
There is no Halachic problem. Of course, you have to verbally state “for the sanctity of Tefillin”. If the color was just lightly rubbed off, there is a good chance that this is sufficient; but if the coloring is peeling off, for technical reasons, a more professional painting is needed for the coloring to remain, and it is advisable to turn to a professional Batim painter.
