Redemption of the firstborn in second marriage

Question

I was married and I have two children. Then I got divorced and now I married another woman and we have a son. Do we need to do a redemption of the firstborn son, or am I exempt, or maybe I’m allowed to do it, but not obligated?

Answer

Dear …!
Much mazal tov, and may you merit to raise your son to Torah, chuppah good deeds!
The redemption of the son depends only on the mother, and therefore you are obligated to fulfill this mitzvah of redeeming your son, who is the firstborn of your new wife.
