Scalding vessels at a hotel

Question

Is it possible to scald (то do hag’alah) pots and pans in a guesthouse that belongs to a gentile? And if it is possible to scald them by boiling water in the pot itself and waiting until the water evaporates?

Answer

Dear …!
If the utensils are clean, it is possible to scald them. In frying pans there is usually a lot of burnt oil that is hard to clean off.
If a pot or a pan is coated with Teflon or marble, it cannot be koshered.

The preferred way of scalding utensils is by putting all the utensils to be scalded in a large container with boiling water.
If there is no large container, it is possible to fill the pot that needs to be scalded with water until it is completely full, and when the water boils, it will splash on the outside surface of the walls of the utensil.
It is important to make sure that the boiling water reach all the upper edges of the pot. And since it is hard to reach a state where the boiling will rise above every point of the edge of the pot, it is advisable to gently put something in the water while it is boiling vigorously, and that will cause the water to rise and wash over all the edges of the pot.
