Paying with an inferior product

Question

I borrowed a phone from a friend, and, due to my negligence, it was damaged. What I returned to him is a different type of device, but it is sold for the same price in the store. Now my friend claims that the device is not of the same quality as the one he lent me and demands that I return the device that I bought for him and buy him the same type as the one I borrowed. Does he really have the right to demand this?

Answer

Dear …!
The payment is based on value and not on product. Therefore, if what you bought for him is equal in value to what you took, you have thus fulfilled your obligation.
However, it is advisable to come to an agreement with him.
