Picking mushrooms on Shabbos

Question

Many times there are mushrooms growing in our yard. I know that according to halacha mushrooms are considered something that does not grow from the ground. So is it permissible for me to pick them on Shabbos, since there is no plucking?

Answer

Dear ...!
There is a prohibition to pick fruit and the like from the place where they grow, even though it is not considered to be plucking from the ground. There is an additional prohibition on Shabbos [which is a derivative of the melacha of harvesting] to uproot something from its place of growth, and picking mushrooms is included in this prohibition.
