Produce outside the Land of Israel

Question

I’m right now staying outside the Land of Israel in a non-kosher hotel that belongs to gentiles. Am I allowed to eat uncut fruits and vegetables here?

Answer

Dear …!

Outside the Land of Israel, you are allowed to eat fruits and vegetables without kashrus supervision, because there are no commandments connected with working the land there.

At times you might encounter fruits or vegetables that are marked as having been produced in Israel. In that case you have to perform the commandment of separating terumos and tithes. You will also have to be careful not to eat orlah fruit (a fruit that grew on a young tree).
