Kedushah for someone, who made a mistake

Question

Someone said the shmoe-esre prayer, and, after having finished the last blessing, realized that he forgot to say “may there rise and come and reach”, which he was supposed to say on that day; currently he’s saying the words “May G-d guard my tongue from evil”. Now, if he responds to kedusha, he’ll have to go back to the beginning of shmone-esre, and say the whole prayer over again. If he stays silent, he’ll be able to go back to the blessing “be favorable” and continue from there. What’s the right thing to do?

Answer

Dear …

He should not respond to the public kedusha, so that he’ll be able to go back to “be favorable”, and not to the beginning of the prayer; that way he won’t have to say a lot of extra blessings needlessly.
