Fish without kashruth supervision

Question

Dear Rabbi! I’m currently living outside the Land of Israel, and there are no fish stores around here with kashruth supervision. Can I buy salmon without kashruth?

Answer

Dear …

Because oftentimes there are worms in salmon, it’s only permitted to buy salmon either from Norway, or from Chile. In these salmon there are usually no worms. Besides that, in order to be sure that you are indeed buying kosher fish, you must buy salmon with skin and scales. Then you should remove the skin and rinse the fish thoroughly with water.
