Selling an esrog that acquired the holiness of the sabbatical year

Question

I plucked two esrogim (citrons) in an orchard that was rendered ownerless for the sabbatical year. Now, I only need one esrog. Am I allowed to sell the second one? Thank you and have a good year

Answer

Since you plucked a small, non-commercial amount of fruit, you are allowed to sell the second esrog. However, the money will acquire the holiness of the seventh year.

You can use the money to buy anything edible (fruits, vegetables, meat, cheese, etc.). You’ll have to eat these according to the laws of holiness of the seventh year. You can also render the money not holy by transferring it holiness on food that’s already in your possession.
