Pruning aravos on a sabbatical year

Question

There is an arava (willow) tree in my back yard. Am I allowed to prune the ends of branches so many new branches will sprout, which will be used to fulfill the mitzva of the “four kinds”?

Answer

It’s forbidden to prune willow branches on the sabbatical year so that more branches will grow on the tree.
