Chanuka: Lighting Deadline

Question

Hey Is there a latest time i can light chanukkah candles or can it be anytime until its day light for the next day?

Answer

Shalom!

Thank you for your question.

Ideally one should make an effort to light at the proper time according to one’s custom.

If one cannot light at the proper time, one should appoint one’s spouse or other agent to perform the lighting in one’s house on one’s behalf, and le'chatchillah one should try to hear the brachos from someone else who is lighting.

If this not possible one is permitted to light all night long until the crack of dawn with a blessing, if one finds a shaliach who can light beforehand then he should appoint one to do so. it is important to note that one may not eat until he or his shaliach has lit for him.
