Saying "Shalom" to parrot during the mourning period
Question
During shiva, can a mourner say shalom to a parrot who says "shalom"? What is the difference between addressing him first and replying to his greeting?
Answer
Shalom!
Thank you for your question!
A mourner is not to say the word "shalom" as part of a greeting during Shiva.
As such, he may say "shalom" to a parrot, since it is only forbidden as a greeting to a human, not a bird.
May you hear only Besurot Tovot.
