Circumcised Non-Jews

Question

I have a friend that is not Jewish. He voiced to me that he was circumcised as a newborn baby, and that he believes he believes in the word of God as the Jews believe it. He has not personally read any Torah, but he believes the Jews are really God's chosen people. He was scared recently, when he found out the covenant is only supposed to be between Jews carrying the bloodline of the Chosen and God, and that Goy should not be getting circumcised as it feels to him like "stealing" or "plagiarizing" the covenant, so he is worried. He wants to know if God views the Goy who are circumcised any differently from the Goy who are not. He is fearful for being judged for it. What should I tell him?

Answer

Shalom!

Thank you for your question.

It is important to know that Jews do not “circumcise” themselves. Rather, we perform “brit mila” which is a totally different ceremony, procedure and purpose.

As such, there is no problem for non-Jews to circumcise themselves. It does not offend us and it does not offend G-d.
