Question

Can an avel (mourner) shower on Erev shabbat?

Answer

Shalom!

Thank you for your question.

The laws of showering on Erev Shabbos are the same as showering during the week, namely, it is forbidden to wash even with cold water other than one's face, hands, and feet. The face, hands, and feet may be washed in cold water, or even lukewarm water, as long as it is not comfortably warm.

The very sweaty areas, which causes a person to be uncomfortable, may be washed with cold water. If cold water does not work then one may use hot water, and even soap if needed. One should endeavor to minimize such bathing as much as possible, only when necessary.
