Fast Tonight

Question

Hi I am 13 and get very sick when I fast and for me the fast is tonight. I am already feeling sick because of how worried I am and last time I almost ate cat food I was so hangry and as soon as I do a cheekful of water I go completely pale and start throwing up. What should I do?

Answer

Shalom!

Thank you for your question!

Since there is a mitzvah for a 13 year old  to fast, it means that your body is strong enough to do so.
It will help if you prepare yourself before the fast by drinking a lot of fluid (some even add silan (date honey) or honey in the water for extra glucose)  You can start even two days before, in addition to eating food with a high protein content. Alternatively there are also "kali tsom" tablets one can take before the fast

If during the fast you have a headache then you may take an ibuprofen or paracetamol etc. with a sip of water.

if its not just a headache but you feel   dizzy and feel you need to lie down, or you are otherwise not functioning, you may eat.
