The Nine Days: Washing Wigs

Question

My friend has a sheitel business. She washes sheitels and styles them. I work for her twice a week and only wash the wigs. Is it allowed during the 9 days to wash wigs, even if it is not my wig?

Answer

Shalom!

Thank you for your question.

It is permitted to wash wigs that were given in before Rosh Chodesh started until the week in which Tisha B'av falls. Hence, you may wash the wigs That was given in before Rosh Chodesh this week anytime until Shabbat. Once Shabbat ends, we will be in "the week in which Tisha B'av falls." If wigs came in after Rosh chodesh stated then it would be forbidden to wash them. If for example the employer were to threaten to fire the employee over this then it would be considered davar he'aved and permitted, and each case would have to be analyzed.
